Josh was working as a freelancer and at local Twin Cities startups before making the switch to full-time PR extraordinaire at 75F. He told me recently that he came to a realization a few years ago that he wanted to make a change in his career. He said it was his "A-Ha!" moment where he wanted to start working at companies/organizations that actually make an impact for the greater good. Read on to learn more about Josh.
What wakes you up in the morning?
Believing in the work that I do and the company I work for, and knowing I am appreciated for my experience and skills motivates me every morning. I also like to be able to work on something, getting my company in a national publication for instance, and seeing the impact it has on the business, people, and myself.
What do you enjoy most of your job?
Having a public relations/media relations background I wear a lot of different hats on a daily basis. I could be drafting a press release, building media lists, securing a media interview and at any time my day shifts to something completely different that might be more strategic or focused on an upcoming event. I love what I do and the role I am in, tackling something new every day while constantly learning and being creative. Not many professions can say the same. It’s immensely challenging and satisfying.
What’s unique about your role?
My role as Head of Corporate Communications at 75F is all-encompassing, which is great. Not only am I landing media placements in top-tier local and national publications, I am also beginning an analyst relations program which the company has never had, and am the point of contact for investors when they have any needs or questions answered. The role is also both internal and external facing so I get the opportunity to develop programs at an internal level to help streamline processes for our entire staff.
What’s exciting about 75F?
It’s exciting to be part of a company that truly values the reduction of energy consumption and is focused on climate change. Given our recent $18M Series A funding round co-led by Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos-backed Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), I think the sky is the limit with 75F. It’s a fun time to be a part of the company seeing all the growth and interest in our business over the past few months!
What is your personal life goal or dream?
I am a big advocate for animal rights. National organizations such as ASPCA and The Humane Society, as well as local rescue organizations are incredibly important for many reasons. I would love to assist pro bono as a communications liaison for these groups, and while it may be a dream, opening an animal sanctuary outside the Twin Cities is something I’ve dreamed of the past few years.
What are your hobbies?
I am a graduate of Iowa State University so am a big college sports fan, Go Cyclones! I am an avid movie-goer both your typical blockbuster/crowd-pleasing movie but also the arthouse/Oscar-type movies. I also enjoy some traveling and sunny/warm vacations but unlike most people, I would choose snow and mountains over heat and beaches more often than not. Since 2012, I have played on the Flamingo softball team, which is part of the Twin Cities Goodtime Softball League (TCGSL) and love being around my fellow teammates every Sunday during the summer. My partner Chris and I have a dog (Skip) and cat (Church) and enjoy spending time with them whether at home or at the lake or even tailgating!
What’s next for 75F?
We continue to grow at an incredible rate. In just a few short months we have more than doubled in terms of employees. Due to that growth and our recent funding news, we are moving into a new, state-of-the-art office space in early 2020 which we are all very much looking forward to. We are also working on a new line of products that are unlike anything else on the market. Definitely follow us on our social channels over the next few months, it’s an exciting time to be at 75F!
