2017 Ashrae MN Energy Expo Recap

Sep 25, 2017 9:48:50 AM

It was the early morning of September 18th when Adam Beson, Director of Retail Sales, and Bob French, Chief Evangelist, headed to the annual MN Energy Expo by Ashrae at the Mall of America. They set up the bright orange 75F display materials at booth #1. Upon scanning the exhibit floor, they noticed a competitive group of mechanical representatives, manufacturers, utilities and service providers, including companies like Trane, CenterPoint Energy, Johnson Controls, Midwest Mechanical Solutions, Xcel Energy and more.

The President of the Business Council for Sustainable EnergyLisa Jacobson, kicked off the morning with a keynote speech highlighting Bloomberg's New Energy Finance (BNEF) and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE). The keynote session showcased the latest industry trends from the energy efficiency, natural gas and renewable energy sectors within the United States.

Next up was Tim Wentz, Ashrae President, who detailed the Ashrae Code of Ethics along with several case studies. The Ashrae Distinguished Lecturers Program began in 1996. Its purpose is to provide Ashrae chapters with lecturers equipped to speak on relevant subjects of interest to ASHRAE members and guests without accruing large costs.

One of the 20 exhibitors at the show, the 75F team made good ground by speaking to a mix of mechanical contractors and utility groups from the upper Midwest. Efficiency case studies, as earlier highlighted by keynote speaker Tim Wentz of Ashrae, were a hot topic on the trade show floor. Several smaller utilities showed intereste in 75F products to support small to midsize businesses within the region, intrigued by the quick install retrofit across existing HVAC systems and the 30-50% energy savings potential. Several mechanical contractors and regional utilities sought to pilot rooftop optimization strategies, like Outside Air Optimization (OAO). Armed with marketing materials on our Dynamic Airflow Balancing and Indoor Air Quality Management, the sales team enjoyed raising brand awareness and discussing opportunities with interested prospects.

Our next event, the MN Restaurant Association's Hospitality Conference and Expo takes place this Oct 5th at the St. Paul RiverCentre.
